Western MA Chapter Conducts Second Chapter Meeting in All-New Berkshire Innovation Center

January 14, 2020

The all new Berkshire Innovation Center lights up the night at former General Electric site in the center of Pittsfield.

Chapter members gathered for their second chartering chapter meeting on Tuesday, where we refined our chapter success plan, welcomed new chapter members, and received a tour of the all-new Berkshire Innovation Center, which is scheduled to officially open in February. The center provides space for startups and established firms in the fields of additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and wet labs as well as an incubation space for new companies. There is also a large classroom space that is perfect for hosting conferences. The word is getting out, and tenants are already moving in. In September, EMA Technologies announced that it was building an aerospace testing chamber at the center with support from the City of Pittsfield.

Our first talk was generously hosted by Peter Campbell, who presented a talk on challenges to performing Secrets Management at scale in a large enterprise. Thank you Peter for giving our first talk!

Many thanks to Steve Longpre and Ben Sosne from the BIC for their hospitality; this facility is a much-needed investment in the community that will pay off greatly for the Berkshires in the next decade. We can’t wait to hold our first chapter conference in this modern and inspiring space.

Western MA Chapter Conducts Inaugural Meeting

October 29, 2019

On a crisp fall evening in the Berkshires, the Western MA chapter conducted its chartering meeting to begin the steps to become recognized as an official chapter of (ISC)². A dozen of our charter members met up at Framework Co-working Space in Pittsfield and networked, discussed the goal and vision for the chapter, and elected officers. A diverse group of companies were represented from education, aerospace, finance, and auditing.

Newly Elected Officers:

  • Brett Dorr, CISSP – President
  • Jake Kluka, CISSP – Secretary
  • Chris Lepotakis, CISSP – Treasurer
  • Corey Stall, CISSP – Membership Chair

The Chapter Success Plan was reviewed by all team members and 3 proposed chapter events were identified. All members universally agreed that a key focus of the chapter should be to conduct outreach to the local community, inspire young people to enter the field of cyber security, and help elderly and vulnerable populations stay safe online.
